![]() Our guide,Tyler, was awesome and you could tell how much he truly appreciates the animals and the farm. My son (22) and I really enjoyed our tour of Apple Hill Alpaca Farm. This was such a wonderful experience! Thank you! BTW, this farm is atop a very large mountain and the views are breath taking! We purchased alpaca socks in the gift shop which are soft, warm and very durable. Millie answered all of our questions and is very knowledgeable of this farm. We learned about, petted and/or fed many of the animals which included donkeys, alpacas, horses, angora goats, miniature cows! lovable barn dogs and 3 astonishingly large Great Pyrenees dogs, the watchdogs of the barn animals. Her love and passion for the animals was very apparent! The 1 hour walking tour around the snow covered farm was just great. Millie showed us the angora goats, the colorful chickens and pot bellied pigs until others in the tour arrive. Thankfully we had 4 wheel drive to get there! We arrived a 1/2 hour early and were greeted by Millie, a cheerful and lovely lady that welcomed us to look around the barn area until tour time. The road to the farm is long and windy through beautiful countryside. Steer clear of this place if you want a pleasant experience. Our tour was the day after a major snow and wind event in the area. There are other MUCH nicer places around. In any case, we would recommend NOT going here. We even told him it was our son's first fishing experience. ![]() Honestly, we felt like we were REALLY putting him out by coming to fish. He just handed us tools and sent us on our way saying "you'll figure it out". I actually thought he was going to push him out of the way! There were no instructions given other than what size fish were in what pond. When I say he told him that, it is no exaggeration. Upon arriving, we were greeted by a very grumpy man that told my husband to move out of his way, so he could get to the equipment. We didn't discover the other farms until later in the evening. Had we known at the time that other MUCH BETTER fee fishing trout farms were in the area, we would have been out of there in a split second. The only reason we didn't leave immediately was because he was so excited. We went yesterday so excited to take our 8 year old who couldn't wait. Is it a fun way to catch the trout, keep the trout and still have time lift over to enjoy your day? YES! Give it a 's a lot of fun. Is it an expensive way to get trout? Absolutely. That's what TWO people would have paid for a guided trip where you could not keep the fish. 49 pounds of fish plus minimal cleaning.$340.00. Our family caught eight trout between 6 and 8 pounds each. (that is made clear before you even touch a rod) and you WILL pay $6.95 per pound. You MUST take everything you catch.NO Catch and Release. The concept is simple: three well stocked lakes with three different trout sizes that you can catch. For a family of five that adds up pretty quick, and you have no fresh fish for dinnerĮnter Grandfather Trout Farm. A guided trip to catch and release trout is $175.00 per person. ![]() However, all of the guides we saw did catch and release, and for those who want to EAT their catch, it's a bit of a chore to find someone to take you out there. Our family (three teens and two adults) were up in the Boone are for some skiing and really wanted to go trout fishing. Even the workers apologized on behalf of their boss. ![]() A great business to have for tourists but not for children. We told a few people that drove up with their kids we would not recommened taking your children here and they all drove away. Try explaining THAT ONE to your children and why they cant fish here. My husband went up to the manager there are little children and women out here and this is a place of business you need to keep your temper under control. The manager proceeded to use nasty profanity as I started to back my children away so they could no longer witness this. But the manager/owner came out and started yelling at the gentleman and there was an quite an encounter. I completely understand as that is how they make their money. As soon as we walked up a group had caught their 1st trout and to my knowledge threw it back in which you cannot do. My husband and I took our 3 year old twins to which we knew would be so exciting for them to be able to catch their own fish with little patience that they have and take it home. I want to start off by saying this is my 1st review ever and Im not one that would go out of their way to write one but I had to after this past weekends experience at Grandfather Trout Farm.
